I downloaded the new Halo 3 maps, which cost 800 MS points (about £6.50) on Tuesday night. There are three maps in total
Standoff - This is billed as “a big-ish symmetrical map, great for Team Slayer, excellent for Objective games and big enough for a couple of vehicles.”

Rat’s Nest – billed as “a massive level set in the corridors and tunnels of a Human Base near Kilimanjaro. It’s designed for big team games, Objective and Slayer, but also works brilliantly for game types like Infection and Territories.”

Foundry - has been “designed from the outset to be the most customizable Halo 3 Forge map ever created. It’s a large Warehouse, which can be empted quickly and then rebuilt any way you like, with a brand new palette of objects such as walls, ramps, Mancannons and more.”

I have played on all three maps, mainly on Foundry and Stand Off. Stand Off is very big and needs a bit of exploring particularly to workout how to open and close the bunker doors. The only way to play on this at the moment is in a big team battle which can be a manic, as soon as you respawn you are straight into the firing line again.
Foundry is a bit like The Pit as it is set in a warehouse, again the only games that can be played at the moment are big team battles, so I have not had chance to potter around to see what it is all about. Hopefully as more people buy the maps they will then become available in Team Slayer and Lone Wolves.
Rat’s Nest is probably my favourite map out of the three, but I have only played this in a custom game with two other people. It was a little too big for three of us. I hope to get a few more games in tonight, so will see if they start to crop up in the smaller games.
